Creating a scope and linking it to a control
Roles and permissions
Only administrators can create custom fields and scopes
Step One: Creating a custom field
Note
You only need to do this step if you are using custom fields with your scopes.
Hyperproof's recommended workflow is to create a custom field before creating a scope. The custom field represents the dimension you want to track. Referring back to the example in Working with scopes, the custom fields would be Subsidiary, Region, and Software.
Refer to Creating a custom field for instructions on creating a custom field.
Note
Up to 4 custom fields can be linked to scopes.
Step Two: Creating a scope
Follow the steps below to create a scope. If you want to create a large number of scopes, refer to Importing scopes.
From the left menu, select Settings.
Select Scopes.
Click New.
The Create new scope window opens.
Below Name, enter a name for the scope.
Tip
As a best practice, scope names should be searchable by their dimension value(s), e.g. LunaB-NorthAmerica-Cloud, where 'Luna B' is the subsidiary, 'North America' is the region, and 'Cloud' is the software. This allows scopes to act as another layer of data management for your organization. This also applies to scopes without custom fields, e.g. 'HR' for human resources.
Additionally, commas are not supported in scope names.
From the Owner drop-down menu, select the user who will own the scope.
If you are using custom fields, select the field you want to link to the scope. For example, if you have a custom field called Region, and you have four regions within that custom field, click Select region to link the scope to a specific region.
If you are not using custom fields, skip to the next step.
Click Create.
The scope is created.
Step Three: Linking a scope to a control
From the left menu, select Controls.
Select the control you want to link the scope to.
Select the ... (More options) tab, and then click Scope assignments.
Select the checkbox next to the scope or scopes you want to link, and then click Save.
The scope is linked to the control and a scope assignment control is automatically created. To add members to the scope assignment control, refer to Adding a user to a scope assignment control.
