Upgrading to advanced mitigation

Hyperproof’s advanced mitigation feature allows for more nuanced links between controls and risks, thus increasing confidence in residual risk calculations. Turning on the advanced mitigation feature helps your organization more accurately model its risk mitigation strategy as well as justify the value of your assets.

Note

Organizations that purchased the Risk Register after March 2023 are upgraded automatically to the advanced mitigation feature.

What to expect when upgrading

Tip

Migrating from the current method to the new method cannot be reversed!

  1. Two new fields (or calculations) have been added to all risks, and one field has been redefined:

    • Residual impact - The adjusted impact considering control health

    • Residual likelihood - The adjusted likelihood considering control health

    • Residual risk - Calculated as the product of residual impact and residual likelihood unless overridden

  2. The Activity Feed records all changes for ease of reference.

  3. Hyperproof tracks changes that have not yet been reviewed so users can mark them as reviewed.

  4. In the risk heatmap on the Risk dashboard, you’ll now see a toggle for Inherent (the risks in your organization with no controls in place) and Residual (the risks that remain after the controls are in place).

  5. On the risk Details page, you’ll see an updated health card. The card now has two columns; think of the columns as a ‘before’ and an ‘after’. A percentage column shows the reduction in risk; hover to see an explanation of the change.

  6. On the risk Details page, you’ll see two columns in the Linked controls grid as opposed to one. These behave similarly to Mitigation %, but apply specifically to likelihood or impact.

Turning on advanced mitigation

  1. From the left menu, select Risk.

  2. Select your Risk Register.

  3. Select the Details tab.

  4. Click Migration Upgrade Available.

The Upgrade your migration window opens.

  5. Click Next.

  6. Select the radio button next to the action you want to perform:

    • Move mitigation % to Likelihood mitigation - Recommended option; this will automatically apply all your existing mitigation percentages against likelihood. The residual risk will remain the same as before the upgrade.

    • Move mitigation % to Impact mitigation - Automatically apply all your existing mitigation percentages against impact. The residual risk will remain the same as before the upgrade.

    • Reset all mitigation percentages to 0% - All values in mitigation % will be removed, although they will be accessible from the activity history. The residual risk may change.

  7. Click Save.
